We the People

When Abraham Lincoln closed the Gettysburg Address with his powerful words “…that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth.”, he gave every American citizen a mandate to be an active participant in our own government.

Our elections do provide us the periodic power of choice of our national leaders, but once elected, our ability to inform and further influence our representatives in real time is neutered. As individuals, we have few effective tools at our disposal to communicate our displeasure with the status quo or the changes we deem important to better represent our wishes and no practical means to influence our leaders.

For our government to function as it was intended by our founders, the American people must have a channel of communication to legislators that is far more effective than an email address or telephone number. When a public policy issue has broad bipartisan support across an overwhelming majority of American voters, we need a way to amplify our collective voices to communicate our unity with a force that cannot be ignored.

We need our own lobby, our own Super PAC, our own proven methods of influence so that candidates and politicians know precisely what we want and are empowered to act on it.

We need a voice in Washington every day
Be part of the solution

The time to organize is right now.  We believe that America needs a new type of special interest group- one that includes millions of engaged voters from the left, right and middle of the political spectrum. Armed with the facts they need to make informed choices about where our collective interests have been usurped by large corporations and their lobbyists. We The People is special because it is diverse, it is powerful because it is enormous.

The larger and more inclusive our member base gets, the more powerful a force we become. We’ll get better ideas, have more thoughtful communication and make better decisions together than any of us could make on our own. When you join We The People, the battles we’ll fight in Washington will be of the people, by the people and for the people.

Our two-party system, by its very design, divides us. When social media platforms and news organizations exploit this divide, paint us into blue and red corners, and incite us to spew insults and misinformation about ‘the other side’, meaningful dialog between us disappears. We get to a point where we can no longer understand how any clear-thinking person could or would be a part of the ‘other side’ no matter which side we are on. This view of our country feeds our sense of hopelessness and complacency.
What if we set this view of a permanently divided America aside for a just a moment? What if there was in fact much more that unites us than divides us? What if only 1% of the 200 million voters joined We The People to find a better way to build consensus and effect change? If we harnessed the true wisdom and power of this crowd of two million members, we could fix this system by demanding the change of bad public policy that benefits only the few to good public policy that benefits the many. To accomplish that, we need to fight and win against the powerful special interests who spend their time and money opposing the best interests of the American people.

News and social media divide us
How the many can act as one

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to help us reach consensus on what’s broken, determine who is benefiting the most by keeping it broken, and harness the collective wisdom and financial strength of our 2-million- member crowd to fix it.

Often the culprit will be an industry association or trade group. Sometimes it will be a small number of wealthy individuals who give generously for special access in Washington to ‘plead their case’. We will be the first to admit that we don’t know what really happens behind closed doors in Washington. Yet by joining together, we’ll have the talent and resources to pry them open and find out.

Welcome to We The People. If you’ve read this far, we’ve already gotten enough of your time this week to effect change. To continue this effort, all we require is 33 cents a day of your money and your willingness to represent yourself on the issues that matter to you and the American public.

If you can afford Netflix, you can afford to fix America.
